Bangkok's already-crowded cohort of new British and international school openings this August is set to include an unusual addition. The Jataka School, a progressive early years and primary school running from EY1 to Year 6, will open its doors in the capital at the same time as the first campuses of Dulwich College Bangkok, Wycombe Abbey, and Highgate International School Thailand. According to WhichSchoolAdvisor, the school will join a global network of Buddhist and Buddhist-inspired institutions with existing campuses in New York, Bhutan, Singapore and India.

The school's planned facilities lean into its values-led identity. A biodynamic farm, outdoor play areas, cooking spaces, and a swimming pool are all part of the campus design, alongside a declared emphasis on sustainability and pupil wellbeing. The curriculum has not been confirmed in full, but the school has indicated a focus on progressive early years pedagogy consistent with its philosophical foundations.

Standing out in a crowded market

Thailand's international school market is expanding rapidly, and Bangkok in particular is seeing a concentration of new British-brand campuses opening within months of each other. The Jataka School's positioning is deliberately different: where most new arrivals are led by UK independent school brands targeting families seeking IGCSEs and A Levels, The Jataka School is pitching to parents who prioritise holistic development, ethical education and environmental awareness at the primary level.

A principal has not yet been publicly announced, and admissions information was still being finalised at the time of writing. The school's August 2026 opening date puts it in direct competition for the same intake window as the four other new international schools confirmed for Bangkok and Phuket this year, meaning early marketing will be critical. Thailand's broader international school sector has seen consistent demand from both expatriate families and a growing segment of locally resident Thai families seeking English-medium education with a distinct curriculum identity.

What parents should watch

Because The Jataka School is opening only a primary phase initially, families with secondary-age children will need to plan onward transitions from Year 7. Whether the school extends its age range in subsequent years, as several other new Bangkok campuses intend to do, has not been confirmed. Given that admissions details were expected imminently ahead of the August opening, prospective families are advised to register interest with the school directly.
