Wycombe Abbey Brings British Boarding to Bangkok This August

The storied Buckinghamshire school will open its first Thai campus on the former VERSO site near Suvarnabhumi, adding full boarding to a market increasingly dominated by day-school operators.

One of Britain's most recognisable independent school names is weeks away from opening in Thailand. Wycombe Abbey International School Bangkok (WASBKK) is set to begin full operations in August 2026 on a 66-acre campus near Suvarnabhumi International Airport, occupying the site previously home to VERSO International School. According to The Nation Thailand, the venture brings together Wycombe Abbey, Hong Kong-based education group BE Education, and Rabbit Holdings, a subsidiary of BTS Group Holdings, one of Thailand's largest infrastructure conglomerates.

The Bangkok school will offer a full British curriculum pathway, progressing through IGCSEs and A Levels, and will be the first campus in the Wycombe Abbey network to sit outside Greater China, Egypt, or the founding school's Buckinghamshire home. It joins existing Wycombe Abbey schools in Hong Kong, Changzhou, Hangzhou, and Nanjing, with further campuses planned in Singapore and Incheon.

Boarding as a differentiator

Perhaps the most significant element of the Bangkok launch is the boarding offer. Few British curriculum schools in Thailand run a formal boarding programme; WASBKK will provide full, weekly, and flexi boarding options from day one, in keeping with the Wycombe Abbey model. The campus will also draw on sports facilities at the adjacent Thana City Country Club, including golf, tennis, and squash, giving it a co-curricular offer that established Bangkok day schools would struggle to match.

BE Education, founded in 2003 and headquartered in Hong Kong and Shanghai, is the exclusive international partner of Wycombe Abbey in Asia and has overseen the launch and operation of its China campuses. That operational track record is likely to reassure families weighing a founding-year enrolment. Staffing is under way through a dedicated founding-team recruitment process, with positions advertised globally.

A crowded August for Bangkok

WASBKK arrives into what is already a busy August opening season in Thailand, with Dulwich College Bangkok, Highgate International School Thailand, and the St Paul's Girls' School-backed SPGS International School all scheduled to open simultaneously. For families already committed to those schools, the boarding dimension and the Thana City location, convenient for the eastern business corridor and the airport, give WASBKK a distinct pitch. Whether there is sufficient founding-year demand for all five new entrants will become clearer once term begins.
