Jakarta's Independent School to Build Senior Campus and Add A Levels

The Independent School of Jakarta has announced a purpose-built senior campus in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta, completing an unbroken educational journey from Early Years through to A Levels for families who joined when the school opened in 2022. The campus is set to open in 2028 and will sit 300 metres from the school's existing junior site, according to a press release from The Schools Trust.

The A Level programme will launch with 12 subjects: Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, English Literature, History, Computer Science, Art, a Modern Foreign Language, and Music. The selection is designed to support pathways into medicine, engineering, law, economics, the sciences, and the humanities.

Continuity as the selling point

ISJ belongs to The Schools Trust, a UK-registered charity that runs 16 British international schools across 11 countries. Eileen Fisher, the school's head, said the development "ensures that families can stay with us through to graduation, benefiting from the same values and continuity of care." Current Year 7 pupils at the junior campus will be the first cohort to sit A Levels at the new facility.

University guidance covering UCAS, the US Common App, and applications to universities in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Europe will begin from Year 11. The school is positioning itself as a single-school solution for a child's entire education, from age two through to university entrance.

Jakarta's market for newer operators

The announcement reflects a visible pattern among Jakarta's newer British-curriculum schools. Having attracted families in the early years and primary phases, several operators are now extending upward to retain those families through senior school and prevent a second round of school searches when children reach Year 7 or Year 9.

The senior campus will include science laboratories, technology labs, art and music studios, a theatre, a secondary library, and a football pitch. The architecture is designed for Jakarta's climate, with shaded walkways, landscaped courtyards, and covered connections between buildings.

ISJ was founded in 2022 and delivers the English National Curriculum. The decision to build a separate senior site 300 metres from the junior campus, rather than consolidating everything on one plot, signals the enrolment growth the school is projecting between now and 2028. The new building will need to absorb not just the current Year 7 cohort but several successive year groups by the time it opens.
