Kellett School Opens a Purpose-Built Sixth Form Centre in Its 50th Year
The long-established British school is moving its post-16 students to a dedicated campus in Kowloon Bay as it marks five decades in the city, with 240 places across two floors of new space.
Kellett School is opening a purpose-built Sixth Form Centre at The Bay Hub on Kai Cheung Road in Kowloon Bay this August, giving its post-16 students a university-style environment separate from the main secondary campus for the first time in the school's history, according to Little Steps Asia. The timing is deliberate: 2026 marks Kellett's 50th anniversary, and the new centre is the most visible piece of a much larger long-term expansion.
The two-floor facility spans 3,716 square metres and is connected to the existing Kowloon Bay campus by a covered footbridge. Designed to accommodate up to 240 students, it includes more than a dozen classrooms, quiet and collaborative study areas, a small lecture theatre, and dedicated Higher Education counselling rooms. A Harkness table room, enabling the round-table Socratic teaching method popular in British independent schools, is among the specialist spaces that set the centre apart from a conventional secondary block.
What changes for students
The current Year 11 and 12 cohort will be the first students to relocate to the new centre when the school year begins this month. The split-campus model gives sixth formers a degree of independence from the junior and middle-school parts of the school, while the footbridge preserves access to shared facilities and community events on the main site.
A Levels will remain at the heart of the post-16 offering. Kellett has offered the qualification throughout its history, setting it apart from schools that shifted entirely to the IB Diploma during the past two decades. For many families, that continuity is a selling point, particularly as Hong Kong sees a broader revival of interest in the qualification. Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong is also launching an A Level sixth form this month, adding further momentum to what is shaping up as the most active season for post-16 expansion the city has seen in years.
Part of a longer vision
The Sixth Form Centre is the first major physical delivery from Kellett Vision 2035, the school's ten-year strategic plan published in late 2025. That plan sets out ambitions to refurbish the original Pok Fu Lam campus and expand student capacity across both sites in the years ahead. The school currently serves around 1,600 students across its two campuses.
Kellett was founded in 1976 by parents seeking a British education for their children in Hong Kong. Anniversary events in 2026 are planned in Hong Kong, London, New York, and Sydney, reflecting the reach of an alumni community that has scattered across several decades and several continents since the school first opened its doors.
