Rugby School Opens Its First Vietnam Campus in Hanoi This Term
The group's ninth school worldwide takes its first intake of pre-prep pupils at Ciputra this September, with full senior provision to follow in 2027.
Rugby School has this month opened the doors of its first Vietnam campus, welcoming an initial cohort of pre-prep children to a purpose-built site in Ciputra, Hanoi, near the city's West Lake. According to Tes, the school is the ninth institution in Rugby School Group's international portfolio and has been developed in partnership with Khai Sang Corporation, a respected Vietnamese education investor led by Tuyen Nguyen.
The campus opens initially as a pre-prep school, catering for day children from Early Years 1 (ages 3 to 4) through to Year 2 (ages 6 to 7). Prep and Senior provision is expected to follow in September 2027. Students will ultimately follow the British curriculum through to IGCSE before progressing to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in the upper school.
Why Hanoi
The school's arrival in Ciputra, an established international residential enclave in Hanoi's north, places it directly within reach of the expatriate and upper-middle-class Vietnamese families who have long sought British-linked provision at this end of the city. Rugby's pitch is differentiation through what the group calls its Whole Person, Whole Point ethos, alongside the co-curricular tradition and leadership development associated with the UK's boarding school heritage.
Vietnam has become one of Southeast Asia's more active markets for new British school openings this year. Uppingham Group launched its Hung Yen campus in August, and several other groups remain at various stages of feasibility or build. Whether a pre-prep-first model gives Rugby School Hanoi the community depth it needs before rolling out secondary provision will be watched closely by operators elsewhere in the region.
The group's footprint
Rugby School Group now operates nine schools across four continents, joining established campuses in Thailand, Japan, Nigeria and Dubai, as well as three prep schools in the United Kingdom. Hanoi is the group's first entry into Indochina and its first Southeast Asian campus outside Thailand.
