Nord Anglia Builds a Two-School Ecosystem in Kuala Lumpur with Mont'Kiara Buy
The IB school joined Nord Anglia's global network in August, giving the group both a British-curriculum campus and an IB pathway in the same city. Families in KL now face a sharper choice.
Nord Anglia Education has completed its acquisition of Mont'Kiara International School (MKIS), with the Kuala Lumpur campus formally joining the group's global network this August. According to Tes, the deal gives Nord Anglia a second school in the Malaysian capital alongside the British International School of Kuala Lumpur (BSKL), which delivers the British national curriculum. The group now operates 15 schools across Southeast Asia and 90 worldwide.
Founded in 1994, MKIS is one of Malaysia's most established IB World Schools, offering the full continuum from the Primary Years Programme through to the Diploma Programme. It educates more than 700 students from over 45 nationalities, and its cohort achieved an average IB Diploma score of 34.4 in 2025, well above the global average of 30.58. The school also offers the US High School Diploma, widening the university pathway options available to graduating students.
Two curricula, one operator, one city
The acquisition reflects a deliberate strategic shift among large school operators: rather than relying on a single flagship campus in each market, groups are building multi-school ecosystems within individual cities. With BSKL covering the British curriculum and MKIS covering the IB, Nord Anglia can now serve Kuala Lumpur families across both dominant premium curriculum tracks. The two campuses are positioned as complementary rather than competing, with operators describing them as offering families a much broader choice of high-quality learning systems.
For families, Kuala Lumpur remains one of the more cost-competitive premium international school markets in Asia, with top-tier annual fees running from roughly RM 80,000 to RM 130,000. That is a substantial discount to equivalent provision in Singapore or Hong Kong. The immediate question, as the 2026/27 academic year begins under new ownership, is how visible the Nord Anglia umbrella will be in daily school life at MKIS, and whether the group's global collaboration programmes and curriculum partnerships will be extended to its newly acquired IB campus.
