From a single campus in 2016 to a top-100 school in a decade
Brighton College Bangkok opened in Krungthep Kreetha in September 2016 as the third school in the Brighton College international family, built on a partnership between the UK group and Thai investors.
Brighton College Bangkok opened in September 2016 on a 20-acre purpose-built campus in Krungthep Kreetha, east of Bangkok, roughly 30 minutes from the city centre and 15 minutes from Suvarnabhumi Airport. It was the third school to join the Brighton College international family, whose parent institution in Sussex was founded in 1845.
Origins and Partnership
The school is a collaborative partnership between Brighton College International Schools and The Ocean Group, a Thai company led by the Assakul family. That structure gave the venture both the educational governance of the UK original and the local knowledge to operate in Thailand. The school opened as a co-educational day school serving children from Pre-Nursery through to Year 13, aged 2 to 18.
From the start, the school followed the English National Curriculum, with the Senior School working toward IGCSEs. A Level provision came later: a 2018 TES recruitment listing confirmed that A Levels would begin from September 2019, and according to the Bangkok Post, the first graduates achieved 97 percent A*-A grades at A Level, described at the time as the best A Level results in Thailand. The inaugural IGCSE cohort, also in 2019, achieved 100 percent A*-B grades, with 83 percent at A* or A.
Growth and Accreditation
The school grew steadily through the early 2020s, adding staff, expanding year groups, and investing continuously in its facilities. The campus holds a 650-seat theatre, professional drama and music studios, a full-size grass football pitch, a 400-metre athletics track, 50-metre and 25-metre swimming pools, and four tennis courts.
In November 2023, inspection teams from the Educational Development Trust (EDT) and British Schools Overseas (BSO) spent four days on campus, observing more than 70 lessons and meeting leaders, governors, staff, pupils, and parents. The school received the highest possible awards: Gold and Outstanding across all inspection categories. Head Master Nick Gallop, who took up the role in January 2022, called it "a wonderful tribute to all the pupils and staff." The school also holds membership of COBIS and serves as both an AQA and Cambridge Assessment examination centre.
In 2024 the school was named British International School of the Year at the Independent Schools of the Year Awards. That same year, in April 2026, it was included in the Spear's Schools Index 2026 as one of the 100 leading private schools in the world, one of only two schools in Thailand to receive the distinction.
Second Campus
Demand for places at Krungthep Kreetha prompted the group to announce a second Bangkok campus. Brighton College Bangkok Vibhavadi opened in August 2025 on Vibhavadi Road, a purpose-built site spanning more than 21,000 square metres, representing an investment exceeding 1.4 billion baht. The grand opening was attended by the British Ambassador to Thailand, H.E. Mark Gooding. The Vibhavadi campus serves pupils from Nursery through Year 13 and operates under its own founding Head Master, Crispian Waterman.
Present Day
The Krungthep Kreetha campus has a current roll of around 700 pupils drawn from more than 40 nationalities, though British and Thai nationals make up the majority of the student body. The school is divided into a Preparatory School (ages 2 to 11) and a Senior School with Sixth Form (ages 11 to 18). The Sixth Form offers 21 A Level subjects; in 2023, 80 percent of all A Level grades were A* or A, with almost half awarded at A*. Leavers have gone on to Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, UCL, Stanford, and Ivy League universities, as well as to Chulalongkorn and other leading Asian institutions. As the school enters its second decade, a new Olympic-standard athletics track and a refurbished Early Years sensory room form part of the most significant capital investment programme since the school's founding.
