From a single Sukhumvit campus to Bangkok's second-largest international school

St Andrews International School Bangkok opened in 1997 on Sukhumvit 71, in what was then a quieter stretch of Bangkok's eastern corridor. The site, tucked along Soi Pridi Banomyong in the Watthana district, became the school's founding and only campus for its first two decades, housing children from nursery through to Year 13 on a single plot of colonial-style buildings and green playground.

Nord Anglia and the Two-Campus Era

In August 2013, Nord Anglia Education acquired St Andrews International Schools, folding the Bangkok school into what is now a network spanning more than 78 schools across 31 countries. The change in ownership brought capital and a strategic plan for expansion. In August 2017, the school opened a purpose-built High School campus on Sukhumvit Road near Ekkamai BTS station, redeveloping a former private Thai school site into a dedicated secondary facility for Years 7 to 13. As WhichSchoolAdvisor noted at the time, the move meant the original Sukhumvit 71 site became a dedicated primary school for ages 2 to 11, a structural split the school has kept ever since.

The two campuses sit close to one another in central Bangkok. The Primary School occupies its original address at 9 Pridi Banomyong 20/1, Sukhumvit 71, reachable from the On Nut and Phra Khanong BTS stations. The High School operates at 1020 Sukhumvit Road, roughly 200 metres from Ekkamai BTS. A shuttle service connects the two sites.

Curriculum and Accreditation

The school follows the English National Curriculum from the Early Years Foundation Stage through Key Stage 2 at primary level. At the High School, students continue through Key Stage 3 before sitting IGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11. In Years 12 and 13, the IB Diploma Programme is the principal post-16 pathway, alongside the IB Career-Related Programme and BTEC options. The school has consistently posted IBDP results above the global average; recent cohorts achieved a mean score of 34 points against a worldwide mean of 30, with several students scoring 40 or above.

Accreditation is held with Thailand's Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (ONESQA) and the Education Development Trust (EDT, formerly CfBT). The school has described itself as the first in Thailand to hold joint accreditation from both bodies. It also holds recognition from the Association of British Schools Overseas (AoBSO).

Recognition and Partnerships

In January 2020, St Andrews Primary School was named International School of the Year at the ISC Research International School Awards held in London, taking the top prize for its student-led environmental programme, Eco Beasts, which the judges described as an exceptionally powerful environmental initiative. The nomination competed against 255 eligible entries from schools in 40 countries. In 2024, the Primary campus became the first international school outside the United Kingdom to receive the IQM Inclusive School Award Centre of Excellence status, recognising its provision for students with additional learning needs.

As a Nord Anglia school, St Andrews holds exclusive curriculum partnerships with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for STEAM learning and with The Juilliard School of Performing Arts for music and performance. A collaboration with UNICEF runs across the school, connecting students with the UN Rights of the Child and the Sustainable Development Goals through debate, Model United Nations participation, and international travel.

Present Day

The school today enrols around 2,300 students drawn from more than 60 nationalities, split roughly between the two campuses. Instruction is in English, supplemented by Thai language at both sites and modern foreign languages including French, Spanish, German, Korean, Mandarin, and Japanese at the High School. A Thai Language, Culture and History programme runs school-wide. The current head is Paul Schofield. In 2026, the school was named in the top ten international schools in Thailand in the Edarabia Parents' Choice Awards, reflecting sustained enrolment demand in a competitive Bangkok market.
