Reigate Grammar School KL Opens Its First Full Academic Year
The Surrey school's Kajang 2 campus enters its first complete academic year in August, with a permanent boarding facility for 200 students confirmed for 2027 as the school builds toward full capacity.
Reigate Grammar School Kuala Lumpur is beginning its first complete academic year in August 2026, nine months after its purpose-built campus in Kajang 2 opened to students. According to the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce, the school celebrated its official opening in November 2025, establishing the Surrey school's first Asian campus and bringing a full British sixth-form curriculum to the outer Kuala Lumpur market.
The school is run in partnership with Beaconhouse, a Pakistan-founded education group that operates more than 200 schools across South and Southeast Asia. That arrangement gives the school local operational depth while the Reigate name and curriculum remain governed by the Surrey parent. Students begin in Early Years at age three and can progress through Cambridge IGCSE at Upper Secondary to A Levels at Sixth Form, a full 3-18 pathway that remains relatively uncommon among international schools in the Kuala Lumpur metropolitan area.
Boarding on the horizon
The headline development for the school's near-term future is the boarding facility confirmed for 2027. Designed to house up to 200 students, the permanent boarding house will sit on the Kajang 2 site and is expected to make Reigate Grammar School KL one of the very few schools in Malaysia to combine a complete British curriculum with residential provision. In the interim, the school offers supervised temporary boarding accommodation near the campus, allowing it to draw students from beyond the Klang Valley while construction continues.
The current student body stands at more than 400 across 28 nationalities, against a stated capacity of 1,250. Class sizes are kept deliberately small, typically below 20, reflecting a priority to build school culture and academic consistency before expanding enrolment. The co-curricular programme covers technology and robotics, debating and ethics, and a sports strand with an adventure and physical pursuits component shaped around the campus facilities.
A different corner of the market
The school's location in Kajang 2, roughly 30 kilometres from central Kuala Lumpur, is a deliberate departure from the city's established pattern. Most of KL's British international schools are concentrated in Damansara, Mont Kiara, and Bangsar South, close to the expatriate clusters that have historically driven premium school demand. Reigate Grammar School KL is banking that growing residential development in the Kajang corridor, combined with a boarding offer that day schools cannot match, will broaden its catchment. Whether the first full academic year delivers the enrolment numbers to support that thesis will become clearer by the end of term.
